Jose Colunga-Lopez

Jose is a dedicated fitness professional with deep roots in the Central Coast sports community. From an early age, he cultivated a passion for sports and exercise, competing across multiple disciplines with a particular affinity for track and field and powerlifting. For seven years, he participated in sprint events (100m, 200m, and 400m), drawn to the competitiveness and disciplined effort each race demanded.

After his athletic career paused due to a lower back injury that made lifting uncomfortable and unstable, Jose faced recurring breaks in his fitness journey caused by lingering nagging injuries. In his pursuit to return to powerlifting, he collaborated with Clay to rebuild his core from the ground up. Clay suggested kettlebell training, which resonated with Jose and ultimately set him on the path to becoming a StrongFirst-certified SFG I instructor.

Through consistent training and protocol refinement, Jose has transitioned to a place where back pain no longer dictates his lifting. He remains focused on advancing toward his strongest performance to date. As a lifelong student of strength and conditioning, Jose is committed to continual learning and refinement of his coaching and personal training methodologies.
